The Alaska Rush 07G and three players from MT Rush 07G met up and took over the Rainier Valley Classic 2022 tournament in Seattle, WA. The girls connected immediately and from the first training to the last match, they played as if they were a team that had played together for years. The tournament started with a strong showing from the host team, Mt. Rainier FC and the first match ended in a 0-0 draw. The second match saw a different result of 5-0 with a victory over a local team, and that wrapped up the first day. That evening the team went to the Sounders game and many got to see their first professional soccer. Great game and incredible Sounders fans. The Sounders broke their losing streak and defeated CO Rapids 2-1.
The following morning, the girls faced off against WA Rush, and what a battle that was. WA needed to win the match to advance to the finals and got an early lead off of a freekick. But AK Rush came back in full force and responded with 2 goals of our own. Final score was AK 2, WA 1. FInal match against MRFC saw some hot temperatures, good soccer, and a lot of determination from the ladies. They battled and controlled every part of the game and came away CHAMPIONS, defeating the host team 2-0.
Over the weekend, the girls played 4 games in 36 hours, scored 9 goals, only allowed one, and earned a ton of compliments on their play from opposing coaches, fans, and staff. These girls came to play and showed Washington soccer just what Alaska can bring. Awesome job, ladies and congratulations on being the winners of the Rainier Valley Classic 2022 tournament!!!
